Park Poe-young
The Honorable Justice PARK Poe-young was born in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do on March 13, 1961. She earned her LL.B. from Hanyang University in 1984 and passed the 26th National Judicial Examination in the same year. After completing the two-year training program at the Judicial Research and Training Institute (JRTI), she was appointed as a judge of the Suwon District Court in March 1987.
As a career judge, she served at Suncheon Branch Court of Gwangju District Court, Seongnam Branch Court of Suwon District Court, Seoul District Court, Seoul High Court and Seoul Family Court. She stepped down from the bench in 2004 after serving as a presiding judge of Seoul Family Court. Her legal career continued as a lawyer since then.
During her career both as a judge and a lawyer, she worked hard to improve divorce system and provide constructive resolution for family disputes.
Justice Park is well known for her expertise in family cases. As a lawyer, she displayed her devotion to protect women's and minority rights which led to earning a recognition of being an exemplary lawyer who values public interest over private interest.
With a strong yet gentle leadership she led the Korean Association of Women Lawyers as the President. She was appointed as a Justice on January 3, 2012.
Justice Park authored a number of theses including A Study on Matrimonial Property System (1987) and Survey of the Division of Matrimonial Property (1998).
