Kim Shin
The Honorable Justice KIM Shin was born in Busan on March 30, 1957. Justice Kim earned his LL.B. from Seoul National University in 1980 and passed the 22nd National Judicial Examination in the same year. He was appointed as a judge in February 1983 and started his judgeship at Busan District Court.
He served as a judge at various levels of courts in South Gyeongsang Province including Busan such as Busan High Court, Busan District Court, Ulsan District Court, and Dongbu Branch Court of Busan District Court. He was appointed as Justice in August 2012 while serving as the Chief Judge of the Ulsan District Court.
While serving as a presiding judge at Busan High Court, he rendered a number of judgments that greatly contributed to protection of the vulnerable and minority groups in society. Justice Kim rendered a landmark decision whose purport was ¡®It shall be considered an industrial accident even if undocumented migrant workers got injured while trying to avoid crackdown¡¯, thereby opening a new chapter in protection of the human rights of migrant workers. Also, he is respected by so many of those in the legal circle, not only by judges including his colleagues, but court officials and lawyer community as well, owing to his endless efforts to studying legal principles and his characteristic of leading trials in a warm-hearted and gentle manner.
Justice Kim composed a number of legal theses on Civil Code such as Medical Practitioner¡¯s Liability for Damages for Unwanted Childbirth(2001) and The Effect of Cutting Power to Businesses that Violated the Regulation of Restriction on Types of Business in a Shopping Complex (2005).
