KIM Jae Hyung
The Honorable Justice KIM Jae Hyung was born in Imsil, Jeollabuk-do on January 23, 1965. He passed the 28th National Judicial Examination in 1986 while attending Seoul National University (SNU), College of Law. Justice Kim was appointed as a judge in 1992 and started his judgeship at Western Branch Court of Seoul District Court.
He served as a judge in Seoul Civil District Court and Seoul District Court until 1995 when he began his academic career as a law professor at SNU, School of Law (formerly College of Law). Justice Kim devoted himself to research and teaching of the civil law of Korea for 21 years and was appointed a Supreme Court justice in September 2016.
Justice Kim is renowned for his expertise in Korean civil law. He has provided theoretical and practical solutions to intricate legal issues and problems that arise in trial practices in a number of research papers and case analyses, thereby taking the Korean jurisprudence to the next level. He is also highly regarded for his contribution to strengthening the linkage and exchanges between the legal practitioners and scholars of Korea by actively partaking in drafting the amendments and revisions of various Korean enactments.
He authored numerous books and articles, including the <General Theories of Civil Law>, <General Provisions of Civil Law>, <Contract Law> and <Press and Personality Rights>. Justice Kim has won the Cheolwoo Press Law Prize for the Best Research Publication awarded by the Korean Society for Media Law, Ethics and Policy Research (KLEP) in 2005 for his research article <Legal Remedies for Infringement of Personality Rights by the Press> and the Jurisprudence Research Publication Prize awarded by the Korean Legal Center in 2007 for an article entitled <Criteria for Determining the Parties to a Financial Transaction>, and received the Red Stripes Order of Service Merit in 2011 for his contribution to promoting Korea¡¯s legal culture.
