PARK Jung-hwa
The Honorable Justice PARK Jung-hwa was born in Haenam, Jeollanam-do on October 3, 1965. Justice Park earned her LL.B. from Korea University and passed the 30th National Judicial Examination in 1988. She was appointed as a judge in March 1991 and started her judgeship at Northern Branch Court of Seoul District Court.
Afterwards, she went on to serve as a judge of Seoul Family Court, a judge of Research Division of the Supreme Court, a professor of Judicial Research and Training Institute, a judge of Seoul Administrative Court and Gwangju High Court, etc. She was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice on July 19, 2017, while serving as a presiding judge of Seoul High Court.
Being friendly and considerate of others with a caring heart, she is highly respected by her fellow judges and court staff. Her unique and gentle leadership demonstrated throughout proceedings is credited for increasing procedural satisfaction of parties which often leads to accepting a court decision.
While serving as a judge at Seoul Administrative Court, she rendered a host of meaningful judgments that set a clear yardstick for interpreting labor relations law and protected legal interest of the vulnerable. The judgment that first recognized illegitimacy of disciplinary dismissal of Ssangyong Motor employees who went on a strike, and the one that recognized legitimacy of establishing a labor union which includes unemployed job seekers are just to name a few.
Having worked as a judge of Research Division of the Supreme Court and a Presiding Judge of the chamber for labor and refugee cases at Seoul Administrative Court, Justice Park has expertise on such areas as intellectual property law and labor law. Several theses and annotations she wrote include¡ºThe effect of the right of renewal expectation and rejection of renewal in the fixed-term labor contract (2012)¡» and ¡ºPlaintiff standing in litigation for cancelation of a decision by a joint owner of the patent right (2005)¡»
