OH Kyeong-mi
The Honourable OH Kyeong-mi was born in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do on December 16, 1968. She received an LL.B. from Seoul National University College of Law and passed the 35th National Judicial Examination. She was appointed as a judge in 1996. She began her judgeship at Seoul Central District Court and served as judge at various courts including Seoul Southern District Court and Busan District Court, and also served as Director of Judicial Research at the Supreme Court Library and as Professor of the Judicial Research and Training Institute. Since 2012, she served as Presiding Judge at Seoul High Court and Gwangju High Court, and appointed as Justice on September 17, 2021.
During her 25-year judgeship, she handled numerous civil, criminal, family and administrative cases. Justice Oh is known for being accommodative to the parties¡¯ level of understanding during trials, and setting exemplary trials admired from within and outside the courts through making the most appropriate conclusion based on profound legal knowledge.
While reflecting deliberate contemplation and insights on the socially vulnerable and minority peoples in her judgments, Justice Oh endeavoured to deliver impartial and strict sentencing decisions on crimes of moral hazard in order to ensure social justice.
She has also been making efforts to promote legal research by establishing Research Group on Modern Society and Sexual Crimes with colleague judges and serving as the Founding President to provide a forum for discussion on digital sexual crimes and other emerging types of crimes along with gender related issues.
With an exceptional appreciation of Korean language and experiences of serving as Director of Judicial Research at the Supreme Court Library and Professor of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, Justice Oh is also making contributions to advance the legal culture by giving lectures on legal syntax for judges and lawyers.
