OH Suk Joon
The Honorable OH Suk Joon was born on October 29, 1962, in Paju, Gyeonggi-do. Justice OH earned his LL.B. from Seoul National University¡¯s College of Law, and passed the 29th National Judicial Examination in 1987. Subsequently, he began his judicial career in 1990.
Since then, Justice OH has held various judgeship positions throughout the judiciary. He served first as a judge in the Western Branch Court of the Seoul District Court and later in the Seoul High Court. He has held the position of Chief Judge of the Sokcho Branch Court of Chuncheon District Court and professor at the Judicial Research and Training Institute. He also assumed responsibilities as the Director General of Public Relations at the National Court Administration, Presiding Judge of Seoul Administrative Court, Chief Presiding Judge of Suwon District Court, and Presiding Judge of Seoul High Court. Most recently, he served as the Chief Judge of the Jeju District Court since February 2021 and was appointed as the Justice of the Supreme Court of Korea on November 25, 2022.
Having more than 32 years of judicial experience, Justice OH¡¯s judicial career exemplifies his genuine desire to serve the people and reflects his belief that fair trials can be held when they are founded on the public¡¯s trust. Throughout the years, Justice OH has gained a reputation for his excellence in trials. He is known well for conducting trials so that parties have ample opportunity to present their arguments, and making the most suitable judicial decisions for individual cases based upon sound legal principles.
With his deep understanding of constitutional values, legal principles, and insights into judicial precedents, Justice OH has invested efforts to deliver significant decisions in a wide range of cases. He has also endeavored to guarantee the fundamental rights of the people and freedom to establish political parties and recognize the constitutional ideology of the March 1st Movement. Further, Justice OH has presided over cases that concern the disadvantaged and minorities and has ensured that the rights and interests of those involved were protected.
During his judicial career, Justice OH has twice assumed the role of Director General of Public Relations at the National Court Administration. He has contributed greatly to promote public trust and confidence in the Korean judiciary with his superb interpersonal skills and pro-active role. With extensive experience in judicial administration and outstanding leadership that encompasses everyone toward involvement and unity, Justice OH has promoted high standards in judicial proceedings and contributes continually to establishing a trusted court by maintaining a dialogue with the public.
