Welcome to the website of the Sentencing Commission of Korea.

The Sentencing Commission was established as an independent national institution affiliated with the Supreme Court of Korea to reflect sound public opinion in sentencing, and to issue sentencing guidelines for equitable and transparent sentencing practice. The Commission also conducts research and deliberates on sentencing policies related to its objectives.

Since its inception on April 27, 2007, the Commission has established sentencing guidelines for 46 types of offenses by delving into and analyzing sentencing materials, conducting research on sentencing, and collecting pubic opinion, while continuing to make revisions to the sentencing guidelines. Also, the Commission is running an experience program, ‘You are the judge’, for the public to help people better understand sentencing practice.

The Commission is always attentive to the invaluable voices of the people. We will actively review and reflect not only the public opinion from the public hearings and inquiries, but also the suggestions and advice received on the website.

The Commission will do its utmost to live up to the expectation and support of the people by setting impartial and reasonable sentencing guidelines. I ask for your continued interest and affection in the activities of the Commission.
